Banging Convectors

In a building I do much of the maintenance in there is one room in which the convectors rythymicaly bang.
They stop banging when the built in (Danfoss) thermostat is readjusted.
I do this but the next day it often comes back.
What can I do to stop the banging for good?
Thanks,
Dave

    Banging Convectorss

    It is hot water.
Sorry for the lack of information.
I've never even heard of steam convectors befor.
These are mounted under a glass wall.
They are approximately 4" sq. thin plates (aluminum), about 1/4" apart pressed onto copper pipe.
There is what appears to be pressure measuring ports on a device that has a knob that is marked in % in series with the t-stat.
    Thanks,

  • did the banging starts

Did the banging starts after the installation of the Danfoss valve? One of the possibity is the valve is installed backward and caused the seat to slam.... Check the system flow and the arrow on the valve itself...

    balance valve

The device you are talking about is a circut setter or balance valve. Try opening the balance valve a little more. I had a problem with a convector at a frat house that did the same thing. Once I opened the balance valve more the noise quit.

    Banging

It sounds to me like the Danfoss valve is installed backwards. As the vavle reaches it's set point temperature, the backwards flow of the water is slamming the disk of the valve down on the seat. When the valve is fully open or closed there will be no banging. If the vavle is in backwards, you should be able to vary the rate of the banging by slightly moving the setting on the operator, the closer to set point temperature, the faster the banging. Easiest way to check flow is to fully close the Danfoss valve (snowflake position) and walk away for an hour. Come back, fully open valve (5 position) and put hands on either side of the convector. Side that gets hot first is supply. The Danfoss vavle has an arrow stamped on the valve body, that should be the direction of flow. The union side of the valve body should be the discharge. Good Luck
