Wood burner Potential

Good to hear from you. I made it down to Lake City to ride sleds with some friends a few weeks ago and thought of you while I was riding through all that farm country. Are you staying busy? An update on my email address. It is now darinwallis@hughes.net. Please email me and tell me hos you made out with your Lochinvar water heater at the dairy.

    Wood burner potential

My sister and brother in law have a Carrier MVP(2 stage, DC wattage motors, etc). Right now, he runs the blower at the lowest CFM for filteration and humidification. When he puts in the wood boiler next spring are there any suggestions on wiring and controls to maximize the slow airflow and make for even temps throughout the structure? He'll be using a heat exchanger and existing ductwork for air distribution.

Placing that coil in the plenum will void any and all warranty on that furnace. So says Carrier.

While their variable speed motor is a nice piece, it (and anyone else's) is adversely affected by static pressure that is tolerated by a normal PSC motor. I know of a couple, 1 on a Bryant and another on an American Standard that have failed after an OWB coil was installed.

We usually install a second thermostat an connect the W wire to the G terminal allowing the fan only to run on a call for heat. This gets a little tricky when you're dealing with an A/C equipped unit and/or a variable speed drive. On the Carrier, you'd probably wind up having to reset the blower dip switches for optimum heating delivery.
