Pigtail

Irv simply while the boiler is hot ,touch the pigtail where it is attached to the control(pressuretrol or vaporstat). It should not be HOT to the touch. If you are concerned you can remove it and clean and replace. If it is old you can replace it with one made of brass.GOOD LUCK

    ?????

Should the pigtail attached to the pressuretrol get hot?
Its filled with water. If it didnt would it indicate a problem?

    Unless somehow

the act of thermal transfer via conduction has been lost to some "new science" - it will - and should get hot.

1/4" sched. 40 steel (or brass being better yet) is still a pretty good conductor, especially when the loop typically touches itself - shortening the conductive path by 6"?

Hot is one term. 212F is quite another. The latter would indicate a potential problem. It also depends on how long the boiler has been steaming.
