any opinions on the nicest pipe hangers money can buy? presently unistrut with cushion clamps is my number one choice. also opinions on the nicest insulation for hot and chilled water lines. cost is no issue for this job and I was hoping that maybe someone knows of a sweeter setup than the cushion clamps and fiberglass insulation I am presently using. hoping for something real real nice...

Cushion clamps are nice. I like them for copper. When I'm doing oil tank piping I like split ring, or clevis type hangers.

I usually use split ring to hold the bulk of my manifolds away from the mechanical wall.

The unistrut cushion clamps are like gold here down on the south shore or MA. There could be a black market ticket for them.

    Clic clic clic Egli

I really like the plastic Clic clamps. We use them with great success though, :( I've never tried them on steam...

I find the name of the manufacturer most cool - but that's just me.

For insulation, the Armacell high (steam) temperature foam is really sweet, but for all sorts of reasons I find the calcium silicate molded forms to be the superior item.

I use those plastic clips for my pex sometimes, I never thought about using them on other pipes.

    Thanks for the link!

Do you cut off the extra tabs that stick out? And they look cheap enough that if you had to remove one you would just install a new one right?

    They

are servicable!! You can release the clamp and do whatever you want.

We do cut the tags when they will be in high profile areas.

They make larger sizes as well AND clamps that work in uni-strut.(Have not used those yet)

We snap a chalk line and screw up the bases. Roll out the PAP and zzzzzzzip! Straight as an arrow!

Cost about $.30 each. Fast and SILENT. NO expansion noise.

    Awsome clamp!

    Yep

those are the bomb, Mark. I use them all the time with the slider brackets.

Another awesome hanger is the "one shot" green plastic hangers. Impregnated nail, clips over the pipe, use horizontal or vertical. Souix Chief makes them I think. Just wish they come in PEX sizes..

    touchdown clamps

I agree touchdown clamps are real cool, and I also use them quite a bit. split rings are nice also and I also use them a lot. clic hangers suck in my book and are way over priced. they dont always clic real good even with the correct insert (jmo). I love suspension clamps in real high end jobs.this job is at the high end of the high end scale and surpasses even the nicest multimillion dollar house I have ever done (this house is CRAZY!!!). so I was hoping someone new of something even fancier for this new project. thanks to everyone.

    Pipe Insulator

If price is no issue do like the professional insulators do on commercial work. Run your lines using oversized clevis or autogrip (teardrop) hangers. Size them for the OD of the insulation (to provide complete uninterrupted thermal insulation). Then use saddles at each hanger to protect the insulation.

You can use pre-pasted jacketed insulation w/Zeston fitting jackets. Finish up the job by using a marking system such as Brady to identify lines and direction of flow.

This is rarely used these days but by far is the Cadillac way of installing, insulating and identifying piping systems.

While the above mentioned are cost competitive and easy to install they allow very little room for continuos insulation.

WE used to do a great deal of bid and spec work which spelled out the hanger and insulation systems very clearly that had to mbe used.

When I want the best and quietest that money can buy, I look to this German Company. Recently, I believe Erico has brought out a line of insulated hangers that looks suspiciously similar to a few of Mupro's offerings. However, it's a short line and as you can see if you go to the link, Mupro's is very extensive.

    insulation Rich K

hey thanks Rich K. you just described how I do a commercial install. this is also the way I may do the job. what I am hoping for is the latest greatest. the house is so completely custom that I am hoping to go one step further than just the comercial look. this is a dream job that I can use whatever I can find that I like. I have allready fabricated and welded up some cool brackets for some of my pipe work. I am looking for products way out of the normal envelope. What I need to build is a working piece of art. this is a 20 million dollar house that is more custom than anything I have ever seen. what I need to do is build the classiest heating system anyone has ever seen. I need to build a FERRARI ENZO that heats and cools the house. the equipment is second to none. half of it is built for just this house. hoping for some way out there kinda stuff...

    Eric
If you do look deeper, you'll see that there is a reason for the depth of Mupro's line. As some of you who have visited Germany probably know, they have very strict noise abatement regs there. Mupro is just serving their market, albeit with style.
    On a related topic:
Earlier in theis thread mention was made of Sioux Chief's "Touchdown" clamps and bars. Are any of you users aware that they have an add on insulator piece that independent testing has shown is quieter then LSP "Acousta-Plumb" line of straps?
BTW: I own no Sioux Chief stock at this time.
