House too hot...new thermostat not responding

The temperature in my house is running at about 76 now. We replaced the thermostat but the boiler is not responding appropriately. Something is still calling for heat, even with the thermostat disconnected. It will fire and heat to 180, then shut off for about one-two minutes and then come back on again.
What would be the next step(s) for troubleshooting?
