Can you check the undergrown oil tank for leaks?

    heating oil

Is it normal to smell diesel after an oil delivery?
    I have no leaks.
    Could this be a ventproblem?
    Seems to dissipate shortly thereafter.

It is possible that you have a leak in fill/vent piping. Is the top of your tank appear wet? Is the vent gauge plastic vial loose? any of these things can lead to a smell.

What part of the house is the smell the strongest? If this problem is ongoing, go outside and check where the vent pipe ends. Is there a dryer vent or another type of vent nearby? If one of these vents leads to the area where the odor is strongest, you found your problem.

    Oil leak

How can you know when your undergrown oil tank is leaking?

    Please give me some examples.

Yes, you can have the tank pressure tested.

Of course, if the tank is weak you could blow a hole in it.

If you're that concerned, I would just dig it up. Pretty soon the MAN will make you do it anyway.

When my brother-in-law bought his house the ins. co gave him 30 days to remove the underground tank or they would terminate coverage.
