    Noisy steam pipes

I'm having a problem with a verticle pipe that feeds the furtherest radiator in my house.(Second Floor) when the heat comes on ,after a few minutes i hear a loud ticking noise in this particular pipe which is located in the bedroom wall.I checked the radiator and it seems to be pitched correctly but i did notice that there is no shut off valve on the pipe going to the radiator.Don't know if this could be causing a problem.Thank you for any advice.
