Try Metrowest Chimney Service, have used them to line chimneys and they are reasonably priced.

Anyone know a good chimney mason?

No one in FAP. I haven't had much luck with the yellow pages; the guys who rain capped the chimney did a mediocre job and the sweep ranted politics at me on the phone for 20 minutes. I need an 80 year old chimney repointed and don't want it to look like it was done from the ground with a paintball gun.

    I'm in Acton, MA.

Not every mason is quailfied for chimney work...

Your local CSIA certified chimney sweep is a good bet. ALL CSIA sweeps carry an id card, ask to see it. Go to WWW.csia.com for a referral list.

Just call the masons union, this time of year half of them are unemployed, and working for the other guys anyways, and they are very quality conscious.

    Call my friend...

Steve Striebel in Gill Mass. (further out on Rte. 2). He's very good, he's honest and he has been on This Old House.

This guy is terrific; he installed a wood stove and flue liner for me, but restoring masonry chimneys is his specialty. He knows what he is doing with chimneys in the same way wallies know their hydronics.

he also just opened a new fireplace shop that carries Euro brands (like Nestor Martin) that are nearly impossible to find in these parts.
