Can I add a radiator fed by the return pipe in the basement

  • I've seen that done

    and it worked. But there's only a limited amount of heat in the condensate since the flow rate is not great. You might want to do a hot-water loop off the base of the boiler, this has the added advantage of thermostat control.

    I would not pipe it in series

    I would pipe it in parrell and reverse return to balance the units. If you pipe it in series the second and third units down the lines will take much longer to heat up and not get as hot because of the supply temperature drop. You are are dropping supply temps through the uits also.
    If you reverse return you will naturally balance the system too. First one in is the last one out. Then use TRV valves Thermostatic radiator valves for the simplist unit controls. They are non electric and provide individual unit control. Just make sure you size the supply and return piping the correct sizes to deliver the apprpriate amount of heat.

    I've done this hundreds of times.

    I would just cut a hole in your smoke pipe, attach a dryer vent hose to this opening, then run your dryer vent hose to the area you want heated.

    Thats not even a funny joke For all we know he could make that room in to a bed room and have a kid sleeping down there. Not knowing its a joke he could do it. only to find someone dead the next day.
