4 way mixing valves

I recently noticed that Buderus shows a circulator on the return back to the boiler, leaving the 4 way. Viessmann does not. I believe the controls act very similar in these instances so why the difference?

    My guess is

it makes no difference. The 4-way is at once a mixing and diverting valve. I have seen Centra (Honeywell) systems set up both ways both in the field and diagrammed.
