I recently noticed that Buderus shows a circulator on the return back to the boiler, leaving the 4 way. Viessmann does not. I believe the controls act very similar in these instances so why the difference?

My guess is
it makes no difference. The 4-way is at once a mixing and diverting valve. I have seen Centra (Honeywell) systems set up both ways both in the field and diagrammed."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"
