Automatic water fill for solar tank

who has a solar system with an 800 gallon storage tank. While I was visiting yesterday the husband stuck a marked stick down into a capped hole in it and proclaimed it to be low on water. He than hooked up a hose and filled it for 20 minutes. I told them they should have an automatic feed. Does anyone have a recommendation, or can you point me in some direction to help them? Many thanks. WW

    Any Idea

    Where the water went?
A fill valve is easy enough to get, from a simple toilet ball cock to more elaboate fills used for cooling towers. But where did that amount of water go in the first place? Also, any auto feeds will fail at some point, what if anything are you going to flood when it happens?

Maybe the hose isn't so bad after all ;-)

    auto (flood) fill

Waco- I would NOT install an auto fill as the potential of flooding is too great. Instead make sure that the tank is sealed very well. A properly sealed tank should only need water added every other month or so.

We usually install a water level alarm instead. Check out Grainger's I think they have a stainless steel version. You can hook to an alarm or light or even solenoid valve.

Also a permanent exterior sight gauge works well instead of the old honey dipping method.

Is this a drain-back or glycol system? Good luck!
