T T Restige on LP gas

I have about 9 LP units in right now. I love these boilers. I would highly recommend them for your middle of the line unit as it is our middle of the line unit.

The factory doesn't want you to mess with the combustion as they say it is pre-calibrated. However and that is a big however we did have a few issues with a hard start that required a little tweaking, and most of them require some form of tweaking for your height above sea level.

As for parts we have had both good and bad experiences. Some parts were here over night but we did have one ordeal with the OEM condensate trap that took us 4 weeks of riding the rep to get.

    Prestige on LP gas

Any of you guys running these boilers on LP gas and if so, what level of success have you had with it? After some bad experiences with other brands when using LP, I'm a little cautious about what I recommend to customers.

I'm looking at using the Prestige as my middle of the line unit and any comments at all would be appreciated.

(Excuse the typo on the headline, can't go back and edit my slip of the finger)

    Well

Our first Prestige install replaced another mod/con that was 3 years old. LP fired BTW. After a gazillion call backs for F09 codes, we replaced the boiler, FREE OF CHARGE, with a Solo 110. That was last heating season and we have not had ONE call back since. The Prestige has worked flawlessly.

The Solo does not have the "bells and whistles" that some of the other mod/cons have, but a zero "call back" trumps all the glitter IMO.

Good boiler Steve. I recommend it without hesitation.

  • LP Gas has never

been very good firing at rates lower than the maximum design rate of boilers and furnaces. Low fire applications tend to have problems and unless there is the ability to adjust the lower firng rates it can present a problem. It may be that the simplicity of the Prestige line is what the doctor ordered. Part of the problem has to do with actual burner design and the port loading charcteristic of the burners. Most of the burners fire very well on natural gas but have problems on LP. It is my opinion that there should be burners just designed for LP and burners just designed for natural.

The quality of the LP being used is also a factor much like the quality of oil is a factor on designed oil systems. When modulation and condensing are a factor much stricter burner design is needed. I think Viesmann has done the best job on this so far as what I have seen.

    I have one on LP......

and it has also worked flawlessly. When I first installed the SOLO 110, the CO levels seemed a bit high so I added a little extra air. However, that extra air caused problems with ignition,so I reset it back to factory settings. Since then, no problems. I have been using these units as my mid grade line for the past year and a half, with the Dunkirk XEB as my less expensive alternative and the Viessman Vito as the top. Haven't sold any Viessman's yet, but I have not been able to get pricing either....Makes it a little hard to sell. In my market, almost no one is installing anything but chimeny vent cast iron atmospheric boilers. There are a some WM HE's and VHE's and the like, but thats about as efficient as they go. A couple of installers are doing Munchkins about 60 miles away.
