I plan to put one in for my ool. An ool, by the way, is a poool with no "P" in it!

The nice thing about heat pump pool heaters is that there is no need to do any field refrigerant piping. The unit is self-contained and looks like a condensing unit. All you need to do is connect the pool water circuit to it and away you go.

One thing you must keep in mind... When you pipe in the water circuit, the water in and water out ports are not interchangeable. Any automatic chlorinating devices must be on the water out line to help prevent damage to the heat exchanger in the unit. Also a check valve should be installed between the water outlet port and any automatic chemical feeders.

Heat pumps for pools

Hello Professor,

Are you aware of any heat pumps for heating outdoor swimming pools? I am familiar with the units that are used for indoor pools to de-humidify the air and heat the pool but I had a customer asking about using a heat pump instead of his propane heater. Is such a thing made and would it be more efficent than a direct fired pool heater?
