sure that the replacement pump will develop the same head as the original? Paloma uses head to open the valve.

    Paloma-Pak???

Need some help, Went on a service call yesterday and ran into the 1980 version of a wall hung hot water boiler.
It's Called a Poloma-Pak Made by Negea Energy Products from
Worcaster, Mass. This Unit is made in two peices A Contol Unit With the circ. and a second unit with the heat exchanger. After testing the controls i found the circulator went bad. Replaced it and every thing now circulating. New problem is now the burner does not fire up. There is no wires going from the control unit to the heat exchanger unit. Looking At the unit It lookes like the gas valve workes on an aquastat keeping a constant temp all the time which i cannot get to. Wondering if i can clip the wires to it and use a strap on aqustate, and at what temp?
    thanks for any help

  • If my memory serves me correct

I seem to remember that these required a circulator capable of developing 21 feet of head to circulate the system water and open the gas valve as well. I used to get involved with these in a previous life before working for Burnham. Never really sold any....just got involved with them when they either didn't work or set buildings on fire due to burnt through heat exchangers. This was decades ago before they were shut down here in the states. My final understanding is that the protective plating on the copper heat exchanger had the temperature tolerance for use with either Natural or LP gas. If the Natural Gas utilities were supplementing LP to keep their volumes and pressures up in the coldest weather, which was common practice prior to LNG, then the heat exchangers would suffer due to the increased temperatures.

    taco 007 is wrong pump

    Look at taco-hvac.com.
The 007 only has 9 feet of head at 5GPM
The 26-64 had 24 feet of head at 5GPM.
That would certainly not work right and most likely causing the problem your having now.

    Funny Thing

Cutomer just called said he was fooling around with the water after i left last night, Rasied the pressure to 17 psi and the burner kicked on and has heat since.
    Now what?
  • The high head

pump is necessary to create sufficient pressure to cause the pin in the gas valve to be pushed up to fully open. In some cases you could actually have a valve opening part way and have delayed ignitions. There were also case of the diaphragms in the valves getting a small pin hole and not allowing pressure, in this case they would open sometimes and not others.

Part of the problem with these units was when they stopped using the heat exchangers made in Japan which had a higher temperature tolerance and went to units made in the USA. They literally had melt down and either caught on fire or created very high levels of CO.

if you don't get the right pump in there you won't have enough flow. The little fins on the heat-X will melt or distort restricting the flow of flue gas and the whole thing turns to ----.
