Roth Duo Pex 5 Layer

They are cheap and want to be the lowest bid in the bunch. These guys are into delivering heat, not comfort or the long term benefits of a properly designed and installed system.

And you are correct, in most cases they won't be around in 5 years.

But what really frosts me, is that they got this hair brained idea from some one, and I know exactly who it was. The wholesaler who does their heat loss calcs and specefies their equipment...

But when the systems fail (and trust me they are failing a lot faster than one would have thought possible) who looks like the bad guy? It's not the hydronic wannabe plumber who is now on his fourth company name, its the hydronic heating contractor called out to address the problem that has to charge $10K to straighten out the cheap mess assembled by the contractor at the behest of the wholesaler.

Fair word of warning to manufacturers and wholesalers. There are a VERY intelligent bunch of lawyers out there looking at this non oxygen barrier issue, and NO ONE is exempt from their long reach...

You'd better start flying right or be prepared to pay the piper.

Personally, I'm training over 50 mechanical/building officials next month, and I WILL be addressing the issue of non oxygen barrier tube in RFH/hydronic heating systems.

As Heatboy once said, "There is no right way to do things wrong..."

    ROTH DUO PEX 5 Layer

I saw someone put a questions about the ROTH DUO PEX 5 Layer Pipe with the EVOH Barrier as a question...

THE EVOH is made during the time of extrusion not another layer placed in the tubing...I would suggest checking it out...I understand that some contractors use non barrier tubing...WHY WHY WHY...would any reputable contractor put tubing in someones house that could develop a problem down the road...Even if you put a Stainless Steel or Copper Boiler or Heat Exchanger in....I guess these guys don't plan on being in business within 5 years...Please if someone can explain this to me please do so...If John Barba is out there and he wants to take a shot at this one maybe he can shed some light on it...I just can't get my head arouund it....

    Mark,

Wow I could not agree with you more...The only problem is that we are competiting with guys out there giving a price using non barrier tube and the homeowner thinks I am ripping them off...Even though I try to educate I don't get the job due to the price difference...

    What to do....????
