vents on returns
Steamhead (in transit)

it doesn't make much difference if they put the main vents there. But if they are long, I'd consider moving the vents. Why fill a long pipe with steam if there are no radiator takeoffs on it?

vents on returns
Our 1907 house is heated by a one pipe steam system, powered by a Pierce Eastwood sectional boiler. Ther are no Main Vents and I can find no evidence that they were ever installed here. However, the two return lines each have a vent. Despite the great age of the coal to oil converted boiler, the system heats up quickly and effectively heats the house. Has anyone seen another instance of vented returns?0
