di-electric unions keeps loosening up

... turns of teflon on the dielectric's threads. It'll tighten up better ;~)

    new(4-5 years old) hot water system off a steam to hw heat exchanger.classrooms are about 300+ feet away from boiler room ... there are 10 classrooms with trane unit ventilators.supply and return off main above ceiling 1 1/4 takeoff nipple (black)then copper to unit 1 1/4 ...transition was made with di_electrice unions ..with rubber gaskets (found out plumber had one apart)i ussually tighten 4-6 of them each year ...one i tightened up last year i just had to tighten again today ..... any suggestions.

    Use brass unions instead.

    one more trick if you leave them in place...

    use some grip on the face of one side or the other of the gasket when you first install them.dont slo it on just enough to place a film over the one face of the gasket.

    i will lend you my 24" cresent..and use Larrys technique of the correct amount of wraps of teflon for the size of pipe.
