Steam Boiler Question

making the Mega-Steam our usual steam boiler. As of now it's only available as an oil-fired unit, but we hope Burnham will make a power gas burner option available. Besides expanding the Mega-Steam's market, this option would allow the owner to switch fuels without buying a new boiler. Then you could burn whatever fuel was cheapest per BTU!

Which steam boiler?
I am a homeowner who recently purchased a home with very very old steam boiler that is at the end of it's life. I have an estimate from two different local heating contractors who I think a pretty credible, ( at least they've been in buisness for generations) one is quoting a Peerless WBV and the other is quoting a Burnham MST model. The contrcator quoting the Burnham claims it is a step above the rest in efficiency and design and the other guy claims the Peerless is equal. The quote for the Burnham is a little more but I would certainly be willing to pay it if it's worth it. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,

the MST...
is a step OR two above...however if the boiler is not piped right it won't matter...chose based on both. kpc

The MST
also known as the "Mega-Steam" gets my vote too!

Install
Have either of you installed one or plan to? I do gather that they are a relatively new product?0 -
Burnham it is!!
Thank you for your input. I'll go with the MegaSteam!!!
Maybe I'll see if the other contractor will quote me using the Burnham, or would that be frowned upon?0 -

Julie,
As others have said the new piping that will connect your boiler to your old system is as important as the boiler you chose. A poorly piped boiler will fail in short order, and cost you dearly in wasted energy. At a minimum the manufacturers piping diagram that comes with the boiler must be followed. Make sure that is understood, in writing as part of the contract.
