Purge Valve Help Please

Member Posts: 1
hello i had to purge my neighbors boiler today and i still have air on the upper level. the person who ever installed the boiler never put ball valves on the return. but i did see under the purge valve where you can put a flat screw driver and behind it a wrench can some one please tell me how to operate this return shutoff that i need to me it looks like that will isolate the return so i can bring the pressure up and push the air out
i remember seeing them a long time ago i think they called it a butterfly valve but forgot how to work it
i really need to know how to run it and work it thank you so much

Please anyone the pumps are on the return side and if i don't use this butterfly valve to isolate the boiler return i cant push the air out i had that thing at 28 psi yesterday and without isolating the return on from the boiler i cant purge the upstairs.
im not sure how to work the butterfly valve it takes a flat head screw driver and wrench. can someone please tell me the procedure

purging
steve, with that type of purge valve the slot should be aligned with the pipe for normal operation. perpendicular to pipe, the "butterfly" is closed, and you can purge the line. just like the handle of a ball valve. the wrench flats are a packing nut and should not need to be tightened unless a drip appears after turning the butterfly. also make sure all the returns are isolated when you purge or the water could short circuit thru the un-isolated zones. hope this helps. rob0 -
If you posted a picture it would be much easier to understand what you're talking about. But, it sounds like if you turn the flat head screw parralell with the pipe, and open the bleeder screw above the hose bibb you should be able to purge. is this a monoflow system with individual purgers at the rads?

thank you guys very much it makes sense but when i don't know something i ask and make sure before i just touch. okay so if use my screw driver and turn the screw to the right 1/4 of a turn that should isolate the return and just above the screw i can open the hose barb and purge away. is this right.
again thanks so much the temp is not bad up stairs now but i do want to get it working right it's a baseboard zone.
again thank you i really appreciate it
