Heating/AC Addition question

it depends on a couple few minor technicalities as it were. Here is an idea, insulate a slab on grade to the hilt, Tunnel a zone for him off the existing HVAC system...

a utilidor is able to then carry heat, cooling, potable water, electricity, drain/waste , communications, security...

as a thought...

while radiant heat is wonderful you are basically limited to only one very small boiler that i know of or go with an electric solution, or go with an up grade to your existing HVAC system by adding additional heat to specific areas with take offs from the larger boilers that are available.

then, there are some very swift individuals that might be able to tap solar or Ground source heat pumps or geo thermal :)

you might consider a monitor or toyo heater...it basically is a stand alone pinner oil heater with it's own remote thermostat, that may be placed a ways from the heater. i am babbling...i should get some sleep except , i should get back to work ...once i burn some beef up for dinner:)

Addition for in-laws? Heating/AC options best?

We will be adding a 300 sq foot room/bathroom/storage area plus a new entry/mudroom and hall for another 200 sq feet to attach this room to our house in order to move father in law who has Alzheimer's out to our home with us. This are will be just a few feet separate from the main house, which will give them "some" privacy, yet we can get to him easily and integrate him into our household. Our main home is an old two story 100 yr old farm house we have already remodeled over the years. What would be the best way to heat and cool this new space, as I"m not sure our current forced air unit is large enough to handle this new area. Also, it would be nice to control this area as far as temperature seperately, as their needs will definately be different than ours.
Thanks for any help. We live in Wisconsin by the way. Not sure if doing a slab or digging full basement under the addition.

    Hotel-Motel

"Through the wall" heat pump ...and catch the smaller rooms from the existing system.

And these units always remind me of good times , LOL ( thinking jazz-funk instrumental with wah-guitar solo , LOL ).

    2nd System

Another option..Install a 2nd small furnace/ AC in the utility room or new acttic area . Gas would be perfered and come in smaller sizes. 90 + units use pvc venting.
