Exploding boilers/ water heaters

Here are a couple links:

Didn't have much luck with boiler explosions--residential at least. Plenty of photos and illustrations of commercial/marine boiler explosions.

I am looking for pictures/videos of any expolding equiptment for a safty class I am running for our in house training. I found one by Randel Hilton of a water heater that started me down this somewhat twisted road. Any help would be appreciated. After it is finnished I would be happy to share it with anyone with a similar need.
  • video on water heaters

Watts has an excellent video on that very subject and aside from it being quite dramatically shot, it's as hoot to watch those guys in pith helmets hiding behind dirt bunkers while setting off those water-powered rockets!

    Wowsy !

I see the water heater made it. In remembering reading some posts of Pros walking in on dry fire conditions at the boiler...red hot. That would make a guy think. Maybe with a discriptive call where that may be a possibility. Shut the gas off at the meter, before walking in the dwelling.

Oh cast iron shrapnel bad bad!

All of the water heater companies have these films, as well as OSHA and also any Union Hall should have them just contact the training official. The Watts one is a little old there are newer ones, and it is fun to watch unless you have seen the results in a home that is occupied by people. In the New England area the unions , all of them, run OSHA training courses, these are open to all who want to partake and I promise they have no intention of trying to recruit you and they usually have free doughnuts.
Some films can only be shown for educational purposes; they can be quite dramatic and painful to watch as they are actual events while they happen, or the aftermath thereof. Some films because they show or still have or you can recognize the addresses or individuals, can't be shown to the public at all. I can't even list some of the other equipment that if improperly installed can kill, but sometimes at these training seminars they are discussed. Many organizations, Union sponsored or OSHA sponsored amongst just a few are more than happy to run a free safety class for any group of licensed individuals, no one checks for license at the door, contact any Union Hall for free and no obligation information.

I grantee that after watching some of these other films you will never look at a t&P in the same way again, or many other innocuous looking plumbing appliances.

  • Look at these in order

Don't let cold water into your stack when the boilers are hot....
