CO service call.

no one WOULD EXPECT THE LOWLY STOVE TO BE A KILLER.

I belive that is where the standard of 400 PPM allowable CO came from if I'm not mistaken.

What's worse is when you turn the oven on, because there is a cold surface in direct contact with the flame, thereby quenching it and causing MEGA co.

During THanksgiving, when the oven is running the longest and hardest, and the aldehydes are masked by the smell of cooking food (MMMMmm), many people get a minor dose of CO poisoning, but blame their sleepiness on the triptothane (SP) from the Turkey...

Good save John. Everyone should test every potential CO generator they see. You'd be amazed at what you find....

    This was a good one.

My friend, an electrical contractor, asked me to go to his client's house because the CO alarms, five of them, were sounding.
He had changed them the day before because the old ones weren't working right.
They were going off all the time.

When I got there, the Fire Department was just leaving. They said "there's no CO here".
My Bacharach also showed 0ppm as I searched up and down the house.

Then I went to the cooking range.
It's a big eight burner commercial unit. The exhaust hood above it makes lots of noise so they don't use it.

When I turned on the flame and put a pot on the stove, the ambient CO reading shot up to 194ppm. The stove was running for about 15 seconds at that point.
When I turned on the exhaust hood, I picked up 2ppm

    Mystery solved.
