Replacement fins for hot water baesboard pipe???

I am aware of the pipe being used as a filler. The reason I want to add fins to those bare pipes is because I am not getting enough heat in the room. Out of the 300 ft of pipe, there is only 16 ft. with fins. It is a small room, however, There is a lot of heat loss because the windows are close to 6 ft. tall. The home is approx. 100 yrs. old and is drafty. I also have 12 ft. ceilings. The increase in fins should help with the heating.

Replacement fins for hot water baseboard pipes
Hello,
I am new here. Does anyone know if there is a place where you can buy just the sheet metal fins that are on the pipes for hot water baseboards. I have an old house that had the baseboard heating added but some of the rooms in the house have bare copper pipe. I would like to purchase the fins to add to improve the heating performance of my furnace. This would be a lot easier and less expensive than replacing the entire pipe.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!0 -
fins
Some of the enclosures just have bare pipe in them? Unfortunately the fins are either integral with the pipe or slipped on during manufacture. I have never seen a fin that could be attached after the fact. I think you will have to replace those sections of pipe in order to add the fins. Does the bare pipe heat the room ok? What temperature does your sytem run?0 -
you can not purchase just the fins. The empty pipe is probably there as a filler and not needed for heat in the room. Over sizing baseboard is not better, room will over heat and you will have other problem if this is a loop system.0 -
Why not.....
....buy the fin-tube element, and install it in place of the bare pipe?

start...
with a heatloss analysis of the whloe plce room by rooom...that is the most important...otherwise you are just guesssing....kpc

Contact a couple
of heating contractors and ask if they are doing any current remodel projects that includes removing old baseboard elements.
You could pull the fins off, make a snip in one location and then twist them onto your bare pipe.
Another method is to make new fins out of aluminum foil.
They are both tedious but could give you just the extra heat you are looking for.
Good luck,
