banging zone valves

you could replace them with the Honeywell 5000 series e.g. V8043E5012 (not the 1000 series e.g. V8043E1012). The 5000 series is waterhammer-proof.

    banging zone valves

Does any one out there have any good ideas about stoping Erie zone valves from banging when they close. They are part of a four zone system in a pumping away senario. The circ. is an 007 and I have installed a 1" riser tube 22" tall after the pump and before the valves in an atempt to quiet the banging. The reason I did not install the zv's on the return is I was going by the manufactures diections from Buderus. Any advice would be very helpfull. Thank you.

There's been a lot of discussion

with regard to the location of the ZV's. Most agree, they should be on the end of the zone, not close to the circulator when pumping away (which is of course the right way to do it). And just before closing, the 007 really gets a high head value - which is one of the reasons we prefer to put them at the end of the run; or, use a soft head circ. like the Cadillac of all moderate flow circs., the S-100. If you swap the 007 for an S-100 or TACO equal, the slam will dissapear.
