by the way, what type of nipples or reducers do I need?

Brass? black? Galvanized? Which metal type is suitable? Thanks again.

    need advice

Hi, currently I am using a Gorton No.1 Main vent and it seems some of my radiator vents are hissing and panting (only a few).

I was thinking of getting the Gorton No. 2 and see if the hissing and panting were due to the main vent.

Unfortunately, the main vent nipple is too big and I heard that I need a nipple and coupler for the No. 2

If so, can anyone here give me the thread size of the nipples/coupling for me to get?

Thank you and I greatly appreciate all the help.

    vent

Sounds like you have a 3/4" vent. First things first, how large is the main you are venting ,Length of pipe and dia?How much height do you have from the 3/4" vent hole to anything above that such as your joists.

My main is a 2" pipe about 40" feet long.

Right now I have about 6" of empty space above the Gorton No. 1 main vent.

What size is the Gorton No. 2? 1/2"?

That main needs 1 gorton #2 vent. The #2 is 6 3/8" tall and it has a 1/2" male .You can start with 3/4 x 1/2" reducing bushing and judge if you have room to add a short 1/2" nipple and a 1/2" bushing then the vent . If no room just screw the vent into the reducer and I think you will be OK.

    Thanks

    Thank you very much.

PS. I bought Dan's book and I read about overfiring and underfiring the boiler. How do one correct that? I assume I need a pro to come in to adjust the firing rate?

Yes you absolutely do need a PRO to adjust your firing rate.He should evaluate you system first and then determine if the firing needs tweaking. Good Luck
