steam out the chimney?

I think it is fair to assume a cracked boiler. There need not be any water on the floor; it evaporates immediately and that is what you see coming out of your chimney. Leak may be right at or above the water line.

    Steam out of the Chimney

I have a steam heating system with a 6 year old Burnam boiler. I've noticed much 'white smoke' (steam) discharging from my chimney. My automatic water refill kicks on every 20-30 minutes for about 5-7 seconds. Some suggest I have a cracked boiler, but there is no water on the floor around the furnace nor did I see any water when I peeked into the firing chamber. I also have a tankless hot water system associated with the boiler. Could it be anything other than a cracked boiler?

    You undoughtably

have an above the water line crack or rotten spot in the boiler and makes steam when firng and up the chimney it goes. if you dought that then when its cool fill with water to the top and you will see water on the floor shortly. You need to address this soon as that stem will deteriorate the liner in the chimney.

    probably

I would guess no, you probably have a cracked section above the water line. The only real way to tell would be to flood the boiler and watch to see if the water come's out. But you need to do something soon, if it is losing water someplace else all of that make up water will kill the boiler fast plus the money your losing up the chimney.....
