What do I do?

1) find out is the 'stat is faulty.

2) find out if the zone valve is faulty

3) find out if the zone piping buried in an outside wall is frozen

4) find out if the zone valve has (24-volt) power

5) find out if the zone is "air-bound."

Both Honeywell and Taco brand zone valves have a lever on them. If you open it by forcing the lever into the "manually open" position, anytime any other zone valve opens, you'll get some flow through the broken zone.

If the zones are done by individual circulators - and the circulator is blown, you're DOA until the circulator (or relays that switch and power it) are diagnosed and replaced.

Let us know how you make out!

Unless you own a bank, call a heating contractor, not a plumber. Most plumbers (certainly not all) will simply replace parts until they "get it." Most (certainly not all) heating contractors will diagnose the problem, fix it, and or creatively get you by until the parts/labor required can be done.

Given today is Sunday...

I have a 3 zone heating system and 2 seem to be working fine. The third zone for our second floor appears unresponsive to the thermostat (we're freezing). Is there anything I can do before calling a plumber?

    Hey Ken....

    I RESEMBLE that remark!

As a heating pro, working for a plumbing company, I'm USUALLY the last one called in on a "no heat" call by the homeowner.

FACT of the matter is...I get it right, the FIRST time!, for the MOST part.

My customers know this, and I'm called by them first, for the most part....and am refered BY them quite a bit more than I'd like to be...sometimes.

When you're the best, the work finds you.I wouldn't have it any other way.(the Bossman likes it too!) Chris

    Me too.

Up here we don't have "heating contractors".
In fact, in my province, only plumbers or pipefitters can get gas tickets.

    To both you

and Chris, I neeed not apologize.

You are both the exceptions I alluded to.

And being the pros you are, already knew it!

    How's that for a left-handed compliment.

    And here's the third exception...

30 years experience with scorched air, hydronics,AC, plumbing, taught by my Dead Man Dad and other departed old-school masters of the trades. I forgot to mention electrical too, sorry!
