What is your heat source? Insulation values? & as others have asked... heat loss? 1/2" piping seems small to me.

    Help

I am hoping that someone can help me understand split loops on a baseboard system. I looked at a mobile home that is 14x70 and has approx 100' of baseboard. The loop is 1/2 copper feeding 3/4" fin tube. There are two 1/2" loops coming out of the mech space. I don't know what the supply and return temps are, but the homeowner is using a lot of fuel and the trailer never comes to temp. I believe that the 1/2 pipe feeding 3/4" fin tube could be the issue. The baseboard also appears to have approx 3/4" of open space above the carpet for flow. Where should I begin to look ? Is there flow issue, pipe size issue, or could it be as simple as raising the baseboard for more radiation ?

    generally speaking...

you can only do about 25-30' of baseboard on 1/2 pex...strat w/ a heatloss you either need to start again and run bigger pipe OR run more supplies...

splitting the loop may help, but a tough thing to do in a trailer. You say it never comes-up to temperature, does the boiler fire-off on high-limit then?

you have a lot of work ahead of you. *~/:)

might atart at the mech room at the boiler...consider a couple more zones.

change the headder, cheange the run outs up one pipe size., split the zones, insulate the crawl space from daylight...minimum.

    Good Luck.

    trailer and things to check

Even though the trailers piping may be in trouble have you checked undewr the trailer to ensure that the fiber board is still in place ,most trailer i have worked on heat on had small hot air furnaces and when they they where shot some replaced with hot water boilers because the floor pleum was falling apart ,first i would crawl under the trailer and see what condition the fiber board is in .The space may not heat up dure to the fact that it's losing all it heat to the un insulated floor ,just a thought peace and good luck clammy

    It is an older mobile

I believe this is original to the mobile home. The mobile home had the split loop from the factory. The original boiler was a 175,000 btu lp boiler. Yes, you read that correctly. It was impossible to clean as it was crammed into a closet. The boiler was removed and a Baxi installed. The original complaint from the homeowner was that she was using excessive fuel. The contractor who did the swap never looked at the radiation. He just swapped boiler for boiler. And now she called because her useage hasn't really changed much. So I looked at the radiation and found that there is a split loop, and that the gap between the floor and the bottom of the b/b was approx 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I know there is an issue with the split loop because it is 1/2" leaving the mech room, and it is 1/2" entering 3/4" fin tube. I just don't understand split loops and if that is the cause of the problem.
