Burnham V84 with Drop Header
Looks like a tight squeeze between the heaters and that other boiler . Nice size beasty you had to hand carry out . I love the drop header . You're right , we haven't seen one showcased here in a while . We just installed a V84 and drop header today . I'll post some pics later after I recoup . Our little trick to speed cleaning the sections is to drop them , HARD , on the basement concrete .

Burnham V84 with Drop Header
Here's one we did last week (we did 4 last week).
Old Trojan cast iron boiler had to be disassembled, bagged and hand carried through the house, over two tile floors, freshly urethaned maple and steps, loads of steps.
Thank Goodness it was only a 4 section boiler.
Did the drop header because we have not done one in a while, and the 3 inch fittings were left over after a 19 series Smith. Otherwise, the extra cost of the big fittings would have made the profit margin VERY thin.
Figured there have not been any recent pics of dropped headers. Notice, the lack of (very) visible pipe joint compound on the fittings and visible threads. It drives me nuts to see teflon and dope on finished work. That visible product is wasteful and does nothing to seal leaks. But, that is my OCD problem.
Customer says the system has never been this quiet. The banging has ceased and they are very comfortable.
No, we did not install the gas boiler or the water heaters or their corresponding "aborted fetus" venting.

Nice looking install.
Interesting the way the equalizing line ties into the hartford loop at a tee from the side. Does steam from the equalizing line hit any of the condensate dropping down from that return above it?

That's not a return line
It is a drip off the original header. The return line comes in low, dips down, and comes up into a very proper Hartford loop.
