From the lighter side.... of the shipping department

While this is not directly heating related I just thought you'd all appreciate it:

Several weeks ago I ship in a piece of home medical equipment for repair. A week ago they call and tell me what is needed, a new fan, and how much it will cost. CC info exchanges and I'm told to expect it in about a week.

So last night when I get home their are two packages from Sunrise Medical waiting for me....

Package one is a box - smaller than normal; but I concede that it could hold the piece of equipment.

I instantly determine that package one is too light when I pick it up to contain the piece of medical gear. Turns out it only contans a fan (blower assembly).

Package two is... strange. Did you ever see a flat box before it is folded into a box. That's it folks. A flat unfolded "Sunrise Medical" shipping box: With the wing edges taped shut so the box will not unfold during shipping, and complete with a packing list. You can tell that the box was never unfolded because the fold lines are not "creased" from folding.

    Package two packing list states:

    Qty 1 Ea Shipping Carton

    Qty 0.5 Hr Labor

Of course, no sign of the piece of medical gear I shipped in....; and, like what am I going to do with just the fan and an extra empty box.

I will note that both packing slips have conpletely different packing list numbers (tracking ID's) on them.

I had a couple plesant conversations this morning with customer service. I just had to have fun with the gal - and she was so intriqued by the strangness here that she titled her email to both her supervisor and the shipping department as "Friday morning mystrey..."

Good news is that they have located my piece of medical gear, and claim they will actually install a new fan, run diagnostics to ensure all is well, and ship the assembled unit to me next week...

The shipping center remembers shipping out what I recieved and admitted that it was a strange order to ship; but, that is what was on the packing slips that were printed.

I have to admit that I have seen many of things show up in strange to horrifying condition from mispacking or shipping damage in my life... But, someone shipping me an unfolded shipping box - complete with a packing list for the unfolded box ... is one of those cherries on top of the frosting...

ps: I can keep the replacement fan. Now next time it wears out I can change it myself...

    Packing Peanuts...

wouldn't be so bad... If only there was a place I could give them to who would reuse them.

It seems that their must be some kind of law against that and I end up tossing bags of them into the landfill.

    Do what I do

Next door neighbor has an old boat that hasn't seen water since 1967. Just lift the tarp and ..........whoops.

The boat is 18' long. If my math is correct, I have three more years of usable space. After that, he has an old tag-along camper that hasn't been on the road since 1969. I figure there's at least 15 years worth of storage space in there.

I tried mailing the stuff to my brother, but the letters always come back, "Return to sender". I guess he learned his lesson when we were growing up.

I look at those things and think, "So THAT'S what happened to all those Big Mac cartons I threw away".

Have you tried them in your Mr.Fusion?

    One of my old Co-workers.....

Moved into a nearby town about 15 years ago...when the overnight shipping industry was in it's infancy.

His wife was a BIG buyer of things "by Catalog", and the neighborhood kids came up with the "bestest" name for the packing material...(those silly-**** peanuts)They called them "Ghost Farts". They come from no-where, and seem to swirl in the streets when the wind blows, moving like "broken wind".

I still giggle when I say it ! Chris

    empty carton

I also received and empty, unfolded carton last fall. It turned out the part number for an air exchanger filter (one of those spongey washable kind) was just one number off of the air exchanger carton. Of course I was told that I would not have to pay for the carton or shipping and that my filter would arrive asap. Wouldn't you think a flag would pop up in the shipping department when sending out empty boxes? I'm sure I looked silly cutting the tape off the box and looking inside!
    Best regards,

    Think that's funny?

Back in November, I shipped a warranty part back to the vendor, UPS regular. I got a bill in December for the part and ignored it. I guessed that they hadn't had time to process the warranty.

I got a bill in January. "Hmmmm," I thought, "maybe the manufacturer is giving them problems. I'll wait a little longer."

I got ANOTHER bill Friday. This was becoming very un-funny. I call the supplier and asked and they said they never got it. I dug through my bills for November and found the tracking number. I emailed it to them and looked it up on the tracking page myself.

They found it, in the warehouse, on a shelf. The note on it said "For Steve." Unbelievable....

I did get an empty box shipped to me from a computer company to send back my printer for repair. All pre-addressed and everything. I also get everyone's stryo peanuts given to me and I use them to pack and ship my ceramic orders and what are more than I can use I give to a local glass blower. Love to get them. They are very expensive to have to buy yhem. ...Ruthe

Now that you mention it Ruthe,

I save the peanuts I get with orders in case I need to ship something out. I also belong to a 'freecycle' group and occasionally there is someone that is looking for the peanuts.

    Packing peanuts

The local UPS shipping shop gladly takes all the packing

peanuts I bring to them. Just dump them into a large plastic

bag and drop it off when it is full.
