Currently runs at about 152 degrees unless the temp really drops below 0 like the past week. I was thinking the constant circulation would keep room temps more even and I would control output from Vitotronic control ref the room temp and curve.

vitogas 100
Folks I have a Vitogas 100 Boiler with Outdoor reset. Would I be better off setting the thermostats higher and having the unit run on constant circulation? I have copper finned baseboard. Would this eliminate the temp swings and save propane fuel costs. Thanks.

what are you tying to acheive.
If the baseboard in your house was sized to run on high temps this would not be a way to save money. Constant circ is better tun run with low temps.
If the baseboard was designed to run at 140 max temp or even less, that would be a good idea.
The only thing to worry about when running low temps thrue a castiron boiler is protecting it from thermal shock.0 -
If the slope and shift are set correctly you can essentially use the t-stat as a high limit.
Let the boiler run constant circulation and modulate temperature and the stat will only shut the system down if the space was to overheat.
I'm assuming that you only have one zone.0 -
not sure about that
That doesn't make any sense to me, constant circ in a high temp system doesn't save money? He did mention this is an outdoor reset system right? You prefer an on off banger? Please clarify combustion or system efficiency. There's way too many lame theories out there and brain washing going on.

that seems better
I personally would recommend using a stat in mild conditions, and once your below 50F outdoors crank the tstat all the way up and fiddle with the slope/shift until you're comfy. I've been involved in some sticky converstations with homeowners regarding outdoor reset with baseboard (their fuel bills being high), so I have the battle scars to offer my opinion!
