    Indirect with Steam

Wandering off The Wall I found the diagram for heatin an indirect with condensate. My question is that the diagram shows an indirect with a coil. Anyone have any thoughts about doing the same with a W/M tank-in-tank? I'm wondering if the sludge will build up!? Any one have experience or even an opinion?

    Thanks in advance, Adam

do it with Jazz all the time but never WM

Works great with Jazz stainless indirect, do it all the time. Never used a WM so don't know.

    Jazz?

What's a Jazz Indirect? Who makes it? Tank-in-tank or coil?

    DHW Indirect with steam

The tank must be rated to handle the higher temps going through the coil. Viessmann V300 tanks are rated for direct steam to the coil.

I've done a few tanks using the method described by taking a HW loop off the bottom of the steam return.

Follow the requirements carefully. The tees used for the indirect coil should be facing up so sludge is minimized. We always clean the steam piping before commissioning an indirect DHW tank connected to a steamer.

Refer to the Weil McLain Gold Plus Manual

There is a diagram there with a list of things to consider when designing the piping. If you use an SGO boiler, there is a supply tapping in the rear, a return tapping on the front left, and a control tapping on the left side of the rear section for a high limit to prevent unwanted steaming. I don't know about the temperature rating of the tank, but they recommend setting the bypass to get 200 degrees to the tank to prevent flashing to steam on pump shutdown and to prevent pump cavitation.

    Hope this helps.
