A river of money (GrandPAH)

it was an interesting read and point of view. Not intended to stir ire.

  • Black gold, texas tea - or once was...

That river flows outward from our shores.

Given our unquenching thirst for oil and general reluctance exhibited by our fearless leaders to challenge us regarding our consumptive habits and ignorance regarding high eff equipment, this link certainly makes for an interesting read.

    market

We are no longer consume the percentage of world oil that we used to, and it will continue to decline, not because of conservation efforts here, but because of skyrocketing consumption elsewhere. However, conservation can help us gain more independence from world oil prices.

    Just my $58.84. ;-)

    So,

"Let’s exploit Iran’s oil addiction by ending ours".

And let the rest of the world use all the oil while we have a civil war as our free choice is reduced to no choice.

There are very few people as smart as Mr. Friedman (George Will to balance?) but he is on a crusade and sometimes uses his so called superior intelligence pushing just one side.

My 4 multi million cubic feet of gas, plus or minus, over the rest of my life time-the Good Lord willing.

    :-)

    Reducing dependency

We have to greatly reduce consumption in N. America. If we don't, it's more than just a supply and demand issue. We use 25% of the world's energy in a year, with 5% of the population.

I don't mind paying $5-$6 a gallon for gas, as long as the oil companies are heavily taxed for leased wells, which belong to the US citizens, not EXXON, and a portion of the taxed profits are used to develop more efficient means of combustion, alternate fuels and energy sources and mass transit.

Living in a city where the growing population doesn't want to get out of their cars, has led to massive traffic jams that affect my business. The solution is mass transit, but there's tremendous resistance to the costs.
Don't want to pay the costs? Expect the economy to be powerfully affected. I'll be careful not to get comfortable with gas at $2.50.

We have an ethical responsiblity to reduce our carbon footprint, and be less selfish when it's time to step up to the plate and take a good hard look at the rest of the world's POV. Solutions are politically difficult, but unavoidable.
