Weil McLain oil burner shudder or grinding

Could also be a partially plugged oil line - which would cause the pump to make the noise and poor ignition. Are the oil lines and tank older, or the filter not changed regularly?

Weil McLain oil burner shudder or grinding

I have a Weil McLain Gold Oil Burner that is approximately 6 to 7 years old. Maybe once a day, when the boiler is tripped on, the boiler makes a noise that sounds like an empty metal filing cabinet being dragged across the floor. This lasts for a second or two. A puff of exhaust is sent out of the draft control into the basement. Other than this, the boiler seems to work fine. We have the boiler serviced annually. I am the home owner that doesn't know much about this kind of stuff. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Delayed ignition

is what it's called. This may be due to poor servicing, bad ignitor, etc. Try the Find a Professional page of this site to find a good burner tech in your area.

Hire a qualified oil burner tech in your area because the burner has not been set up correctly...Look at the book which came with your boiler and burner and there is a homeowner guide to tell you what you need to do in maintenance of your boiler...If you do not have this please contact Weil-Mclain @ 219-879-6561 or their website...1zjA9qla

    cavitation noise

The tank and lines are two years old. The boiler is serviced once a year. I would think that the oil filter would be changed at that time.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Even though the filter

may be changed once a year often times the pump strainer is overlooked

From where I sit...it sounds like maybe the motor is going bad. Grinding noise when it's cold that stops when it warms up. A slow starting motor would also give a delayed igntion and oily light off.
