The one I worked on, the supply temp was set to 180, and kept there as soon as the weather got below freezing. We usually see a few days of -40.

    Slab Temp

I did a car wash a couple of months back.I have a slab sensor looking after the auto wash aprons as well as the self serve bays.I just got a call from the owner that the apron with the sensor in it is reading 8C but there is ice and snow over most of the slab except in the middle (where the sensor is). What temp. due you normally set you outdoor slabs.

    Thanks

    We use

a sensor from Environmental Technologies I think
Anywho the sensor senses cold and moisture. The sensor has a small 24 Volt heater that warms it enough to melt any snow to make contact and as long as the temp is cold enough under 34*F I believe it will close the circuit and fire the boiler. Sensor placement is pretty important. You don't want a false reading by the sun beating on it and you don't want to put it too close to your tubes. The sensor makes a nice automatic control. If you are just looking to set a temp and leave it I would play with your temps. If you are going into the slab at 110-120 and look for a temp about 36*F or so maybe you will need a little more. Trial and error works best. For effeciency just bump it up a little at a time. Don't need to be able to roast marshmallows just get over the freezing point.
    Hope all my rambling helps!

car wash slabs need to run

even when it is not snowing, mainly for the over-spray freezing. I've found a setpoint control at 33F to be about the best way to assure ice free operating conditions inside and outside the bay. That becomes critical in hand wash bays where the drivers actually get out of the car to wash. Slip and fall accidents are lawyers delights. At least according to the law firm ads I see on TV at night :)

Bump the supply temperature till the whole slab is ice free.
