venting

I was reading the thread about the gov't and it's stance on energy consumption etc... In that thread it was mentioned about how sometimes it is difficult to find locations to properly power vent equipment in some houses.
In my area there are alot of row homes and closely spaced homes. I have had to "stay away" from the higher efficient units because of these tightly spaced homes. (Some of the inspectors would not allow ANY power venters to be vented within 7ft. of the propery line, not just 7ft from house to house!)
I was just wondering what kinds of options are available to vent these units with very little (if any) sidewall space available.
Can you use the existing chimney as a chase? Would you have to insulate the chimney space around the Intake and vent? Or are there any other solutions?
Thanks for any replies! Mike

Up.
That's about it!
Existing chimneys use as a chase with proper venting within... outide air, if not concentric, has other options but the problem becomes one of pressure balance due to length differences or different pressure gradients if not on the same side of the house....
Here in MA we have to keep 10 feet from property lines for exhaust in general, unless it abuts or is on a a public street or way, in which case it has to be at least 10 feet above grade."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"
