1. Take glass of warm water.
2. Add ice from condensate (highly carbonated no???)
3. Add Phillips milk of magnesia to neutralize pH.
4. Add alcohol, orange juice, Roses lime and consume.
We'll call it a Phillips Screw Driver :-)

I noticed that too
and mine is larger.
But, it keeps on licking so my warm house can keep on ticking...

But I broke mine off 2 days ago....
This is actually a good thing, my neighbors ask me what the heck is that, and I explain it to them..........got there brains in gear.......I am going to the mail mans house Monday night to give him an estimate on installing a vitoden in his house.....

We had to tell
my Susan's daughters not to lick the ice... The vent outlet is just about that height.
BTW: Not sure what RI law is, but here in MA we need a sign above stating to keep the vent clear of obstructions if less than 7 feet above grade... you probably have heard this, just had to mention.
Regardless, the Vitodens is a magnificent beast."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"

-10 and my vent screen is becoming increasingly plugged
Not only do I have the huge icycle, but it is now freezing all arround the top and sides - and the end of the vent sreen - with a very reduced opening for it to vent from - although it is still open and venting.
I'm going to see how it progresses today - and may perform surgury (with hot water) later today if needed...

I was told by Viessmann that
cutting off the outer two rings will help that. If anyone understands differently, please chime in!

Viessman makes a low temperature kit
The low temperature kit cuts the end of the normal screen off, the plate at the very end of the exhaust, and installs a 45 deg down elbow.
I was told that I did not need that here.... That it was something only for temperatures well below zero that we did not get (think Canada and Alaska I was told).
-10 is not really that cold for Wisconsin. I remember -30 whenn I was a kid, and even a several week streach where it never got above -10 as a high.

Cutting the rings
was an intermediate measure short of the low temperature arrangement you described. I knew such a device was offered but had not read a description until you mentioned it by the way.
I was told that the end plate is essential to operation because it blocks any direct wind which could affect the sensitive internal pressure switch- so the 45 degree downturn makes sense. I suppose that cold weather option cannot hurt in any climate- I wonder why it is not their standard? The fact that it gets to -30 now and again is not too fine a line. I would want the cold weather kit I suppose."If you do not know the answer, say, "I do not know the answer", and you will be correct!"

Cut a small notch
We were told by the viessmann rep at a service seminar to cut a small v shaped notch at the invert of the vent as a first step. If problems persist, add the cold weather 45. The screen can no longer be used after this addition. Don't know if that's a concern as I think mine accidently went to the dump with a bunch other stuff. Apparently there are lots of these installed around here (Edmonton, Alberta) but I have never had any build up at all. Only a staligmite growing up from the ground.0 -
Got pictures???
Love to see them...

Here's my ice sculpture. Has been quite cold here as well (3F this morning) but now just below freezing.
Note how most of the ice is directly below the outlet with a smaller clump at the end. I've noticed before that the only time there's ice near the end is in very cold weather when the boiler is really working. Right now it's purring along at or very near minimum input.
You can certainly tell why the screen is so large and heavily constructed!0 -
Pictures... Not as bad as this morning
The problem does not look as bad as it did this AM when I first checked on it.
I believe that is due to 2 factors:
1) I did not get really close enough to see how much was blocked off.
2) My boiler was limited in firing due to an improper set maximum temp limit. It clearly is now on a higher firing rate than this AM - and has probably been there for about an hour or two based on when I get the new maximum temp limit set correctly (and my house is warming up to normal).
Here is the best picture of the bunch. Pleanty of vent room (and it is currently -3 F). I will watch it more this week (and get close enough to tell) as the cold weather is susposed to stick arround. Note that there is snow and ice on the upper and side portions half way to the house.0 -
Those stalactites
and stalagmites are costing youse guys 970btu per pound in efficiency. You might also try to figure out how you can recover the 144btu per pound that was lost making ice. ;>)0 -
Do the vertical vents shed Ice hanging from them somewhere as well???0 -
