One Pipe Steam System

We have a single pipe steam system. We had a fire in the apartment building. Nothing in the steam system was changed. We cannot get the steam to go past the main line air vent without taking the vent off. I replaced the vent with an identical vent (Brand New # 35) If I remove this main line vent the steam immediately goes through the system and it continues to run until the boiler shuts off. When the boiler starts again I get the same thing - no steam past this vent. I checked the vent to make sure the new one is not plugged and there is no water in the Main Line Asked local technicians they tell me it should be working.

I love when somebody that I'm paying tells me that whatever they're working on "should be working." Of course it should be working, you're here because it isn't!

How bad was the fire? Could it have ruined the air vents on the radiators?

What is your pressuretrol set for? Does the main vent open again after a day? an hour? never?

Is there a vent smaller than the Hoffman 1A's lowest setting?

I need several vents for my one-pipe steam heat system which can be set to vent slower than the smallest setting on a Hoffman 1A valve. Can anyone recommend another model from another manufacturer?

I just installed two Gortons on the end of each of my mains the system works great now. Can't go wrong with those gorton vents.
