Traces of cutting oils in the block, in the pipe nipples, flux, dope, whatever - is creating a tempest inside the boiler.
Add one cup of TSP to each 100,000 BTU's of input into the boiler. Fire the boiler until you can no longer keep your hand on the riser where it connects to the main.
Dump all the water via the drain(s). All of them (LWCO if bodied, return pipes if equipped with a drain and of course the boiler itself).
Refill the boiler and skim it from the skim tapping with water around 140-190F. When the "rainbow" surface appearance is completely gone, you're done.
If lucky, part two (skimming) may not be necessary.
Let us know how you make out.

Steam boiler issues
We recently installed a new steam boiler in a home. One problem we are having is the water level in the sight glass is dropping out of the glass completely. I have tested the low water cutoff and the automatic water feed control and they are both operating correctly. While running, the LWC never cuts out and It has not fed any water. When the system shuts off, the water level in the glass returns to normal. Is this a problem with oil residue in the water?
Any info would be helpful.
