New Yorker oil fired hot water system is loud

Thanks for the input. The old boiler was a Crane Sunny Day which worked great up to the day I had it repalced. It was upgraded with a high speed burner already. Not the most quite unit I ever heard either.
The outdoor air kit is a good idea too. It sounds like making pressure/nozzel changes in the Beckett burner is not encouraged.

New York CLW 4 oil fired hot water system is loud
I recently had a CLW 4 installed with a beckett burner. It is currently operating with a 1.2 gph solid delavan nozzel (pump is 100 psi) and was tuned/tested by my oil service provider. It has a draft regulator and vents through a 6 inch stainless liner (32 ft high) that was recently installed in an insulated brick chimney. Draft/CO/CO2 are good, temp taken above flame is about 360 F. Everything appears to work good, but the sound level of the burner flame is higher than I would like it to be. It is very obvious in my living space above boiler room.
I have been told that a semi solid or hollow nozzel could reduce combustion sound level. New Yorker specs this unit out with a solid (B) Delavan from 1 to 1.35 gph nozzel. In addition to what I have mentioned I was told to go with a semi solid nozzel with a rate of 1.0 gph and increase pump pressure to 140 psi, according to nozzel mfg that will bring nozzel up to a rate of approx 1.2 gph. The person providing this information also states that it will reduce combustion noise level and improve burn. My oil service tech was not interested in discussing this with me.
If anyone can give me advice on tuning a New Yorker CLW 4 to its sweet spot I would appreciate it as I want to know more about it when I call my servce tech back over again.

Well it depends on ..........................
Jay, Did the new set-up replace an old 1725-rpm burner? Noise may be normal as new systems are 3450 rpm. The noise you now hear is really just air being moved thru burner. Going away from manufactures spec is a real tuff call, as they spent allot more on what works best than the installer did. You said they told you to use a different nozzle; will they put it in writing?
You may find that using an outdoor air intake kit could reduce burner noise up to 75%.

Mine is noisy too. I now have 2" of drywall over the boiler room and its very liveable.0 -
John has a....
good point...messing w/ facory specs is a slipery slope. Another option would be a box that beckett makes to enclose the burner.....it would be an aditional charge...kpc
