Not very nice! I have advised George Kerr, president of COExperts to look into the matter.
Thanks for bringing this up.

Ya Know..
If I was a betting man, I would say that the two alarms are made by the same mfg on the same line. And then the CO Experts unit is just tweaked to alarm at a lower CO level. Just my 2 cents.0 -
Very fascinating information...you are probably right. And this line is much less expensive.0 -
Jim, check out the facts brfore you start slandering a product
You answered your own question in your first statement "Someone is making a UL CO detector"
Any UL2034 approved alarm will never alarm nor display below 30ppm - ever. Below 70ppm a UL approved alarm can display but is prohibited from alarming.
The CO-Experts unit begins displaying at 10ppm and alarming as well as displaying at 25ppm.
There are many, many other important differences as well. I would suggest you call George Kerr if you are interested in discussing the issues.
And, all that aside, you are talking about one CO alarm listed on eBay - not a very realistic way to compare pricing nor quality.0 -
Rudy
I think he meant that someone was trying to mimic or rip-off CO experts.
As you so rightly state, the fact that the unit complies with UL2034-02 automatically makes it useless.
Thanks for the info on the wet kits!
When you coming to my neck of the woods????

Opps, never mind.....
You are probably right Mark, guess I just saw the title "CO-Experts rip off" and read it as CO-Experts is a rip off.
Its just that I've done a test in most of the CO courses I do where I put a CO-Experts in a zip lock bag, blow it up with 100ppm CO calibration gas - it ALWAYS goes off in 2 - 3 minutes.
I do the same thing with other brands of UL approved alarms - they generally take 4 - 6 hours if ever to alarm.
It's an issue I'm very passionate about.....
Glad I could help you out with the info on the wet kits, if you haven't seen it, I put up some info on the history of Herman Bacharach on the training website. The photos are a little rough (copies of copies of copies) but its pretty interesting:

Not sure when I'll be in your neck of the woods, you will be the first to know when it happens!!0 -
Passion
is what keeps us going!!!
I better be the first to know when you come around here!
I am trying to finish up an article about CO tonight. I promised someone it would be done last Friday, but I can't seem to limit myself to 500 words!
OH!!!! THAT'S RIGHT!!! I need to ask you something. I am going to fire off an e-mail to you right now.
Thanks for all that you do Rudy!

How does this look? http://www.protechsafety.com/8505.html. Couldn't find a price on it.0 -
This is what George Kerr, President of CO-Experts writes back in response to an inquiry about the ProTech brand:
Remember, NO, NONE, ... ZERO ... of the UL, CSA, or IAS Listed C O Alarm on the market, will truly provide protection from Chronic Low Level C O Poisoning because all of these Standards for Residential C O alarms actually FORBID many of the needed features & benefits that are necessary for such protection. UL FORBIDS: Display of ANY C O Display below 30 PPM, NO Warning of C O at 30 PPM until AFTER 30 Days. All UL Listed C O alarms are tested at 70 PPM or MORE ONLY. NONE TESTED UNDER 70 PPM [except by special manufacturer's request for such a listing ], Alarms MUST NOT Alarm at 70 PPM during the first HOUR, and CAN be delayed up to another 3 HOURS.
Please see the New Medical Studies, highlighted by a flashing "NEW" at: www.coexperts.com
Please read the list of features below, that are provided ONLY by the C O - Experts "Health" Monitor.
Warning Levels & cycles:
0 to 9 PPM ..... No Warnings
10 to 24 ..... Visual Warnings Only
25 to 34 PPM ..... 2 Beeps a minute
35 to 49 PPM ..... 2 Beeps every 10 seconds
50 to 69 PPM ..... 2 Beeps every 6 seconds
70 PPM & "HI" ..... 4 Beeps every 6 seconds
Hush Button Cycles:
10 PPM . No Audible Alarm, Visual Warning only
25 PPM. up to 60 Minutes
35 PPM... up to 60 Minutes
50 PPM. up to 60 Minutes
70 PPM. up to 4 Minutes
If at any point, C O Levels continue to rise to the next level, the monitor
will OVER-RIDE the "Hush" and Re-Alarm at the higher level warning.
Digital Display Data Recall Features:
Prior to Recall, Display will show the Current C O Reading from 10 PPM & Up.
After pushing "Recall / Test" Button, Display will show "Cur" followed by
the Current CO Present if 10 PPM or Higher.
Display then Shows "HI", followed by the Highest CO in PPM recorded since
the last time the Data Storage was Cleared.
Display then Shows "OCCUr", followed by the Elapsed Time in Hours & Minutes
since Peak Reading Exposure Occurred.
Display then Shows "dur", followed by the Duration of Time in Days, Hours &
Minutes that the CO Exposure stayed within 10% of the "High" Reading.
Display then Shows "COHb" followed by the % of Carboxyhemoglobin that would
have accumulated in the Blood Stream of the Average Person.
Display then returns to Display the level of CO Present in the Monitor if 10
PPM or more. If C O Present is under 10 PPM, the Display will be Blank.
TO CLEAR the STORED DATA, simply HOLD the TEST BUTTON DOWN until you hear
the Second Series of "Beeps", 6 seconds or more [until you see "Occur" on
the Display Screen], when the Recall Sequence is Completed, the Monitor will
sound a Long single "BEEP", and the Display will Show "CLr", indicating that
the Stored Data has been CLEARED.
Failure Warnings:
Low Battery Warning: Display will show "bAT" for 5 seconds each minute as
the Monitor Beeps a single Beep, and the Green L E D flashes once a minute.
Electronic Error Warning (Including excessive sensor drift): the Display
will show "ERR" for 5 seconds each minute, as the Monitor Beeps a single
Beep and the RED L.E.D flashes once a minute.
At the end of "Life" of the Monitor, it will "Beep", Flash the RED LED, and
the Display will show "Sensor End".0 -

Sorry Jim!!
I misinterpreted your initial post - and it looks like we agree about another thing - Go Steelers!!
Check out this pic, I had the opportunity to get into the boiler room in Heinz Field!! They purchased an analyzer and asked for someone to come down and show them how to use it. Somebody had to do it so I 'volunteered'.
Interesting, 25 miles of 5/8" pex buried in the field, 6 zones and two techs maintain all the HVACR equipment in the stadium.0 -
Nice
Black and yellow colors for the system. Not a Steelers fan myself (go Cowboys) but will win about $450 in my fantasy league if the win the SB. Go Steelers!!!
