Pressure Enthalpy...
If you ask 100 air conditioning or refrigeration technicians if they know what pressure enthalpy is, you may get 8 or 9 affirmative responses. And that would be on a good day.
The other 90 or so may also be making a very good living without knowing what pressure enthalpy is or how useful and powerful this tool is.
Fair enough.
Now, look at those 8 or 9 that know it and use it and I would be willing to wager that you are probably looking at the highest paid technicians in the industry.
I personally considered myself to be a good technician before I even knew how to spell pressure enthalpy. Once I learned it, I fell in love with it and can honestly say that I quickly transformed into an excellent technician.
My love for this stuff (and some nudging from dear friends) drove me to put this seminar together. I am proud to offer this to you and I look forward to seeing you guys six weeks from today.
Lots of surprises await, so come join the fun!

February 23rd Seminar
Here is a (relatively) quick once-over of what will be covered at my February 23rd seminar at the Holiday Inn in Plainview.
Geared towards those of you (chillheads)who service air conditioning equipment, the half-day seminar starts with a graphical review of the basic refrigeration cycle, which will help clarify the concepts that will be discussed later on. The concept of a repeating-cycle versus a non-repeating cycle is discussed as well.
As part of the refrigeration cycle review/disussion, the concepts of superheat and subcooling will be addressed in a manner that will leave you wondering why you ever had difficulty with these ideas in the past. Be sure to ask me about the desert island at the seminar!
Now that we've got the preliminary work out of the way, it's time to delve deep into the world of pressure-enthalpy. But not like you would expect. No need for calculus or the like, we'll discuss this topic in easy-to-understand English so that service technicians, apprentices, service managers and others who wish to be in-the-know will have absolutely no problems following along.
But what exactly is pressure-enthalpy?
Glad you asked!
Pressure is, well, pressure... So far so good, right? Great.
Enthalpy is heat. Plain and simple.
The pressure enthalpy chart (also known as the Mollier diagram) is a graphical way to see an air conditioning or refrigeration system with regards to pressure and heat.
To plot an air conditioning system on the p-e or p-h diagram (pressure-enthalpy, or pressure-heat) you take the information you have already obtained from your basic service, such as system pressures and temperatures, and plot these data on the chart. With practice, this can take as little as 2 minutes.
Now... with this completed chart, you will be able to perform some really cool (no pun intended) calculations. You will be able to determine the actual system capacity, condenser capacity, energy efficieny rating (EER) and a whole lot more. Wouldn't it be great to go up to a system that has a 3-ton nameplate and know for sure that you are getting at least 3 tons of cooling from it? I think so!
In addition, the completed pressure enthalpy chart, along with the calculations you performed, is a great troubleshooting tool. Being able to "see" what is going on inside those refrigerant lines give you that added edge that separates average technicians from great ones.
Here's what you get at the seminar:
1 - A full 4 hours of learning time with an industry recognized and decorated teacher (that's me)
2 - A copy of my celebrated book: PRESSURE ENTHALPY WITHOUT TEARS
3 - A kit that contains all you need to begin plotting air conditioning and refrigeration systems on your own (The kit contains a binder for note taking, clear plastic ruler, colored pencils colored pens, a calculator and a laminated pressure-enthalpy reference card)
4 - A floppy disc with an Excel spreadsheet program that will do all of the presure enthalpy calculations for you!
The materials you walk away with are worth the price of admission by themselves!
In addition to the technical materials you get, you will also be fed... WOW!
Morning attendees get breakfast and a delicious lunch, while afternoon attendeed get the same great lunch and an afternoon snack.
So guys.... what are you waiting for?
I look forward to seeing you guys (and gals) in February!

If you
have ever stopped it the Professors room during A/C season, you know that he "fixes" problems sight un-seen.
He uses pressure enthalpy to do it, and this is what he teaching.
And teach it he will, Eugene is a very gifted educator, and is not done with you until you "get it". Just ask any of his students.
If you are a chillhead, or just want to know more about the cold side of the business you would be crazy to miss this.

I wish...
Eugene would take this seminar on the road and head to the great NorthWest. Or maybe he'll do a video of the seminar someday??
Wouldn't a manufacturer(s) pick up the cost of a DVD presentation??

Never Been to Seattle
Paul,
This will give me a darn good reason to visit Washington State.
I put your information in my database and I will try to set something up closer to (your) home.
And a video does sound like an interesting project. Hmmmmmmmmmmm0 -

Would folks with a min. of AC/Refrig. knowledge benifit from your fine program or would it be over thier head? There was an error rendering this rich post.

Definitely
Of course, Pat.
The beginning of the seminar provides a review of the basic refrigeration cycle, superheat and subcooling, which are the basics of any vapor compression air conditioning or refrigeration system.
I my opinion, if someone with little or no knowledge of the workings of a refrigeration system learns the basics in conjunction with pressure-enthalpy right from the start, he/she is going to be off to a great start.
The manner in which this seminar was written will prove beneficial to the novice as well as the seasoned professional. The teaching methods I employ have proved successful to capture the interests and stimulate the learning process, no matter how much air conditioning and refrigeration experience you have.
I promise you that a great time will be had by all, and you'll leave the seminar with a full mind and a full belly.
Come join the fun and the learning.0 -
If I can get my boss to spring for it, I'd like to attend your seminar, but am from (way) upstate NY. Could you give a little more detailed address where it is held? Google maps gave me several different Holiday Inns in Plainview--thanks.0 -
Of course, John
It's at the Holiday Inn in Plainview, NY.
The address is:
215 Sunnyside Blvd.
Plainview, NY 11803
John, let me know if you will be attending, as the hotel is offering a (small) discount for those attending the seminar. That is, of course, if the drive is too far to make in one day. You have my word, though, it will be travel time well spent and we'll have a hot cup of coffee waiting for you when you get here!
If your boss has any questions about the seminar, feel free to pass my phone number along. (917) 428-0044.
Regards,
Eugene0
