Consulting engineer for COOP bldg heating system survey

The COOP board of the building where I reside is seeking an engineer who has expert knowledge of the operation and functioning of steam heating systems in old buildings (100 years +) to survey and make recommendations regarding actions which should be taken to ensure reliable automatic operation of the system now and in the future.

    steam expert

when it comes to steam, the title engineer does carry a whole lot of weight. what you actually need is a practical steam heat expert of which you came to the right place. just pick one from this forum. you can't go wrong.

I am not a PE, Sir ,but I am intimately involved in The Lost Art

of the Steam and how to optimize any system. I generate a very thorough report and analysis. In fact, we just did one for a fellow engineer who owns an apartment building in Staten Island. We were the last ones in there AND we solved problems that no one else could figure out. We specialize in just what you want. Also, in some cases, we will actually make the repairs for you if needed. Here if you need us. Where is the building located? Matt Mad Dog Sweeney of Triple Crown

    Other Than...

... industrial or big institutional operations, there are very few steam systems being designed & installed. I doubt that you'll find an engineer who knows much, if anything, about your steam system, other than to recommend ripping it out, and replacing it with hot water. That's usually A/ un-necessary B/ really expensive.

Even engineers experienced with big steam systems won't be able to simply "cookie-cutter" their knowledge & experience from industrial to old low pressure heating systems. There some subtle but important differences between the two.

You have a FAR better chance of finding a knowledgeable contractor.
