the PA series crap-trols that you normally see and install(manufactures' send them with new steam trim ) have settings that are low but they do not operate accurately -most will be more 3-5psi cutout-even at the lowest setting--someone realized this and bought a pressuretrol L404 series w/mercury bulb (much more accurate --(MUST BE LEVEL) if you want your installs set at the lower pressures you need a vaporstat ----

Pressure troll on Burnham Boiler
Was on a service call for a friend today, some one had installed a Burnham Steam boiler Series 2?. About two or three years old.
I noticed it hat a mercury pressure troll with manufacturer limits in the instructions of 2 to 15 psi and the differential was subtractive.
I normally install steam boilers with standard pressure switches and turn them down all the way for the .5 to 1 psi range that we want.
Question is how do you get this stock pressure troll down that low.

Replace it ..
...with a Vaporstat. They make them adjustable in ounces.
The manufacturers supply pressuretrols because they are cheaper. They also feel that if they supplied vaporstats they would get many callbacks from irate customers whose installers never properly vented their systems (or looked outside the boiler rooms for that matter).
By the way, isn't the Series 2 is a hot water boiler?

This is a stock switch.
Like I said I normally install boiler with a different control and have no problem.
My question basically is why would Burnham supply a control with there boiler that cannot be set low enough to prevent problems (at least at the controls face value)

Do you want a control that Says it goes low enough or 1 that Does what it is set for ?? the Manufacture's send those Pa-crap-trols because they are inexpensive -the mercury control is much more acurate --for residential and a most 1 pipe jobs --should have a vaporstat --1 model goes up to 16 ounces and another goes up to 4 psi --any new install should have this control in the price --add an extra $150-$200 for the correct control --send the Pa crap-trol back to the Manufacturer --0 -

The pressuretrols that we supply are to cover the 2 psi standard setup that most systems operate at. If you wish to go lower then replace it with a vaporstat.
