    Gas heating shutdown-Clueless homeowner

I converted from oil heat to gas heat back in Aug2004 and the new Burnhan Gas Boiler installed was working fine until now. The boiler was installed with an automatic low water feeder. The problem occuring is that the boiler shutdowns after about 30 secs. of use. The themostat was suspected to be providing this problem, however the two wires leading to the thermostat was hard wired and the boiler came on for 30 secs. after a few attempts of touching the wires together but shutdown a short time after.
The thermocoupling was replaced to no avail and the other cause is suspected to be the Relay, which I am currently trying to locate and replace.
Am I approaching this the right way?

    Don't be guessing

Sounds like you are trying this that and the other thing.
You may actually make it more difficult to trouble shoot by changing a bunch a stuff in an attempt to accidentally hit the problem.

Why did you change the thermocouple and suspect the thermostat, they have very different symptoms. If the pilot is lit it is most likely not the thermocouple, if the pilot is out is most likely not the thermostat or transformer, or relay. (a week thermocouple could cause lack of ignition but usually it works or does not)

A good tech would test each part of the control circuit starting at the thirmostat through all the limits an safety controls.

You you should know what the problem is before you start throwing parts at it.

If you are not familiar with the equipment you should have a pro do the trouble shoot then check for proper operation of all operating controls and safeties.

If the boiler fires up, and very quickly shuts down, sounds like a flame sensor that teels the boiler the burners ignited. If after 30 seconds as you said, sounds like a roll out switch or heat sensor detecting flame or gasses roling out.

How is this boiler equipped for ignition.

Flame sensor with a thermocouple, lets get our equipment right is this standing pilot or electronic ignition.
