Hot Air Furnace

I put in Carrier for 25 years then discovered the Amana 2 stage variable speed and I love it. I do all high end custom and I only put in this unit. Same General Electric ECM blower motor, nice heavy gauge unit construction, very easy drain hookups and one pipe venting.
Very quiet with lifetime warrenty exchange of whole unit if heat exchanger fails. Best of all, very well priced. I have introduced to several mechanical engineers to have spec'd on new jobs instead of the default Carrier.

    Choice of Hot Air Furnace

    Guys...

RicM from HVACTV here for some advice. I have to replace my hot air furnace, (100,000BTU Gas). Had a terrible experience with a Concord (lenox) piece of junk, 2 years old an nothing but trouble. What do the pro's like? Concerned about noise, efficiency, not so much about cost,

    American Standard

Get an American Standard Variable speed. They are quiet and reliable.

    hot air furnace

    Ric,

Check out the Carrier Infinity furnace. It works with the Infinity control (tstat ).

2 stage, variable speed, IMO, the quietest out there.

The control is incredible! it does heat/cool/humidity/dehumid./outdoor temp. sensing/ etc. all w/ just 4 wires. It also has self diagnostics right at the control in plain Engligh ( or Spanish . I think? ), not codes.

We install lots-o-them. Only problem weve ever had was a failed ind draft motor, but that was on a new const. job and the unit was caked w/ crud.

    Good luck

would be better on oil but, since you're asking about gas i'd have to go with any of the nordyne line. tappan westinghouse frigidaire - top line kelvinator philco - mid line great equipment!!!

    The install?

We've had no problems with the Armstrong Concord furnaces we've installed. I wonder if there is something about this installation causing the problem that needs to be solved. The Concord is a pretty simple furnace. The older units did have the infamous Honeywell SmartValve but last generation of those controls were pretty reliable. Far better, in our experience, than the "Intell-ignition" control that American-Standard, Trane & Lennox use.

    Choice

I am on board with the Thermo Pride as well. Pound for Pound, all quality (and you an feel it in the pounds!).

I'd convert to oil... it's cheaper and a whole lot safer.

I'll stick with the Thermopride gas if they have money to waste.

    LP or Natural gas?

Carrier and their other brands have had alot of problems with soot in the secondary over time. Although its never kept me from putting them in(one variable, one fixed capacity) for family or friends i just wish they would have corrected the problem back on the late 90's. Lennox seems too be doing well with their secondaries and I hear alot of good things about the Trane line. What ever model you get, get the technical service manual for it(the one the TECHS carry in their truck) and keep it near the furnace.

Pick the best contractor you can find

I'd suggest staying away from brands that are very proprietary or make it difficult for contractors to get parts for. Lennox, Trane and Carrier come to mind.
