it doesn't close even though the main is hot. Is that normal?
After reading Dan's books and visiting the Wall, I changed my the vent on my 2"x18' main to a Gorton #D. The main now gets hot fast, about three minutes after the header gets hot. The rads start getting warm about 20 minutes after the header gets hot.
My question is whether the mains vent should close right away. Although the main and dry return are about 210* (according to my infra red thermometer) the Gorton does not get hot enough to close until well into the cycle. Is the normal? I suspect that once the main fills with steam it goes off into the risers, and then has to heat the rads etc.
I was just wondering if this makes sense. Diagram attached.
Thanks and Happy New year.

it may be closed
at that point and now there is air trapped against it..which would be cooler..gortons start to close about 110* and will be closed at about 130*..not sure if that helped or not...if its open, you'll have steam blowing out of it..
