honeywell am-1 mixing valve

I'm having a problem determining the difference in piping application of this valve. The piping diagram show's it being used as a mixing vlave and a diverting valve for radiant floor heat. can anyone tell me why you would pipe it one way over the other?

one way is for boiler protection one way is for porpotional setpoint control oneway is as an anti scald devise.
