adjusting pressuretrol

eddie, isn't there a little arm that comes from one side that curves down to the wheel with the numbers on it? If so, that is the pointer.

Ok, I have a PA404A in hand. The arm comes from the left side and curves down to the wheel. Have the no. 1 directly under it. On the outside dial that says "CUT IN" turn that all the way down to 0.5 LBS.

On the inside there is no mark to line up the number with. How should this dial look when facing the unit to adjust to 1 psi which is recommended.

ok, for the dial on the front i assume i use the screw on top? also on the dial inside i see a line that says diff. im not sure where exactly to set it. see pic. also does it matter if i spin the dial left or right?

sorry eddie, I was looking at a 30 year old model. Looks like there is hash mark next the Dif. (that is the differential) for setting the cut out pressure. If your cut in pressure is .5 lb., the low end of that outside scale, set the differential at 1, which would make the cut out pressure 1.5 lb. Use the top screw to lower the cut in pressure all the way to .5. Hope this helps.

Dan and others here generally recommend the .5 lb. cut in and 1.5 lb cut out, since 1 lb. of pressure will send steam up to 1/2 mile or better; no need for more. They argue, persuasively, that turning up the pressure just causes problems. Some models of steam vents will slam shut and not reopen until system pressure drops below 1&1/2 lbs.
