Interesting question from Alaska today (GrandPAH)

Those IR photos that Hotrod took of various forms of radiant floor heating sure seemed to give a good basis for comparison.

Have searched the web for such more than once. No luck. Best I ever find are so-called "studies" by manufacturers seeking to prove superiority for their own product. While I can't blame them, I don't particularly trust such--especially when the testing and/or comparison methods are not completely divulged. That I've yet to see...

All methods would seem to have advantages and disadvantages. The general rule that seems to come out is based on temperature. If in a new system, it seems best to use the lowest temperature method that can possibly be fit into the budget. With existing systems, it seems best to choose a method that most closely matches the temperature requirement of the rest of the system.

    studies on radiant heating products

An architect called me today from Alaska and one of his questions was about comparrison studies on the multitude of radiant products available. I'm not aware of any comprehensive independent study that rates the accuracy of manufacturers claims for their products. I suggested he come here & pose that question to The Wall, but I wanted to ask too - so here I am asking!

Quite frankly, we've installed just about everyone's products in a wide variety of designs and I have yet to find a single one that under-performs after using the mfgr's design program and following the info provided.

Still....... He posed an interesting question and it would be fascinating to see an indepent study's results. Anything out there???

there are a few things that i would like to see available...

there are a host of specialty product manufacturers in the plumbing and heating realm..i am unaware of anything other than a few cut sheets that compare one radiant panel to a couple others and the like i would think that by now Architectural publishers would have been all over it and have volumes of material. there is a sharp guy in Anchorage he may contact at Roth -Sirianni

While it didn't go far enough

The ASHRAE/ KSU study was one that was fairly non biased.

Trouble is finding someone, anyone, to fund a study like this. There are so, so many products out there to test and compare.
